Dr. Narayan Pandurang Waghmare served as the Director of the Goa State ForensicScience Laboratory, Verna, for eight years. He holds a Ph.D. in Science from JadavpurUniversity, Kolkata, and has over three decades of experience in forensic science. Beforeentering this field, he was a Lecturer in Physics at G.S.G. College, Umarkhed. Hisforensic career began in 1993 at the Central Forensic Science Laboratory, BPR & D,Ministry of Home Affairs, where he worked as a Senior Scientific Officer (Ballistics)until 2009. He also completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Forensic Ballistics fromNICFS, Delhi. Later, he served as Assistant Director (Ballistics) at the Forensic ScienceLaboratory, Delhi, before becoming Director of the Goa State FSL in 2016, where heremained until his superannuation. A nationally recognized expert in forensic ballistics,Dr. Waghmare has examined over 5,000 firearm-related crime cases and testified innumerous courts across India. He has investigated high-profile shooting incidents,encounters, and homicide cases. His research focuses on forensic ballistics andcomputer forensics, with over 90 published papers in national and internationaljournals.Dr. Waghmare has trained over 200 police officers as Arms Act experts and serves as avisiting faculty member at prestigious universities. He has received several accolades,including the Union Home Minister’s Award in Forensic Science (2004) and the BestYoung Scientist Award (2000). He continues to contribute as an editor for theInternational Journal of Forensic Science and Legal Medicine and remains active inforensic research and education.
