The three principal foundations of Sanatan Dharma are: first, the Vedas, which in the form of the Upanishads describe the Brahmavidya (knowledge of the Absolute) of Vedanta; second, the Vedanta Sutras, which resolve the philosophical doubts of Vedanta; and third, the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, which shows the path of welfare and liberation for all humankind. The Upanishads and the Vedanta Sutras are very profound and difficult for an ordinary person to understand. On the other hand, the style of the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita is very simple, so that even the most ordinary person can understand it, and yet even the most learned scholars cannot fully comprehend its depth. Although the Gita consists of verses, they are the very words of the Lord Himself. In each and every verse of the Gita, Lord Shri Krishna Himself is present. Therefore, for devotees of Krishna, the Gita is a supremely revered and exemplary scripture. Not only for Krishna devotees, but for all human beings—regardless of caste, sect, gender, or even the gravest sinner—the Gita is capable of granting the highest welfare. Being a devotee of Krishna, and inspired by the Lord Himself, I have written a commentary (bhavarth) on the Gita according to my limited understanding. Writing a commentary on the Gita was not easy for me, yet through this effort I have engaged in the remembrance of the Lord. The meanings have been written only by the Lord’s inspiration; through this work, I have contemplated Him and continue to do so. In that, I find my satisfaction. The readers themselves will understand the essence of this commentary. If, through this humble effort of mine, devotion to the Lord awakens in the heart of even a single reader, then my effort will be successful.Jai Shri Krishna. Jai Shri Krishna. Jai Shri Krishna.
