This book discusses various aspects of inorganic aerosol analysis. It begins with an introduction to aerosols, including basic terminology, the need for aerosol analysis, and the scope of inorganic aerosol research. It then focusses on the inorganic aerosol complosition, emphasizing major inorganic constituents and their environmental significance. Subsequent chapters describe aerosol sampling techniques, filter media selection. A major portion of the book is devoted to analytical techniques used for inorganic aerosol characterization. Various elemental and ionic analytical methods—including X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, proton-induced X-ray emission, atomic absorption spectroscopy, inductively coupled plasma spectrometry, ion chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, potentiometry, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy—are explained with emphasis on their principles, applications, strengths, and limitations.
