The rise of digital technology has led to a breach in intellectual property rights (IPR). Cybercrime in IPR refers to the violation of laws related to copyright infringement, trademark infringement, patent infringement, and theft of trade secrets using digital technology. With the increasing prevalence of e-commerce and online transactions, the theft of intellectual property through digital means has become more prevalent and sophisticated. However, Information Technology Act, of 2000 does not provide any specified assurance or security with respect to intellectual property. This book tends to provide an overview of the nature and impact of cybercrimes in IPR. It examines the types of cybercrime that occur in the context of IPR. These types of cybercrime can have significant economic and social impacts, affecting the revenues of companies, damaging their brand reputation, and causing harm to consumers. To combat cybercrime in IPR, various measures have been implemented, such as the enforcement of IPR laws, cybersecurity laws and regulations, and the use of technology to protect intellectual property. These measures aim to deter cybercriminals from committing IPR-related crimes and to provide legal protection for the owners of intellectual property. However, despite these efforts, cybercrimes in IPR remain a significant challenge. This book also discusses the need for businesses to be aware of the risks and to take proactive measures to protect their intellectual property.
