The present book contains twelve chapters and it deals with various aspects of Optical Communications, and related devices and components. Each chapter provides an in-depth understanding of topics. In addition, it contains a sufficient number of solved examples, exercises, and multiple-choice questions. The distributions of chapters in the book are as follows.Chapter 1 introduces the subject and enumerates its advantages and applications. Chapter 2 deals with the optical wave-guides. Chapter 3 is devoted to the fundamental properties and parameters of optical transmitters. Chapter 4 focuses on the signal losses in the fibers, whereas dispersions in optical fibers are covered in Chapter 5. Chapter 6 describes various types of power launchings in full length.. Chapter 7 describes optical detectors covering operating principles and applications. Complete digital receiver performances of optical fiber communication systems have been described in Chapter 8 and Chapter 09 dealt with multichannel & multiplexing Transmission Techniques.Digital Links and Error controls are explained in Chapter 10, however, chapter 11 is devoted to the optical sensors. Chapter 12 deals with the potential applications and prospects of optical communications. Chapter 13 focuses on recent developments in optical communications. Just after the Chapters, there is a question bank that contains numerical problems and review questions about the entire text. As far as the Appendices are concerned, they deal with the relative permittivity and relative permeability of materials, optical wave-guide design data, and frequency spectrum for various optical systems.
