This book is about Flavonoid plant pigments. They are polyphenolics having Benzo -g-pyrone (chromone ) moiety. They are found in berries, red cabbage, onion, Parsley, Kale, etc. having antioxidant, antibacterial, antiviral & anti-inflammatory properties. A diet rich in flavonoids leads to a reduced risk of several different cancers. The book describes the results of structural elucidations of Chemical constituents of some medicinal and non-Medicinal plants. The chemical constituents isolated from the plant Kochia Indica have been studied in detail in Chapter - I. A chemical investigation of Kochia Indica led to the isolation of five Glycosidic polyphenolic pigments which have been examined for their color reactions and spectral data for their structural elucidations. This chapter also describes the Identifications of Flavonoid –O- Glycosides by UV, PMR, and CMR analysis and it also analyses the nature of Glycoside: its position of Glycosylation, Identification of nature of Saccharide, Glycosidic ring size, Anomeric configuration & Inter Glycosidic Linkage.Chapter –II contains revised new structures of Scutellaris pigments –A & -B isolated from the plant Scutellaria rivularis. This chapter also contains the methods of Spectroscopic studies of Non-Glycosidic Flavonoids (UV, PMR, CMR, and mass ).This book is useful for early researchers in Flavonoid Chemistry.
