Though taro [Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott] is an important pantropic tuber crop widely cultivated in countries located in tropical regions, an exclusive information source on research progress made during the last few decades in the form of a complete book is needed for readers. This book covers various aspects of taro improvement including high yield, high starch, culinary qualities, bio-fortification and resistance to taro leaf blight disease. Cropping systems involving taro have been highly productive and profitable while taro-based intercropping systems and integrated farming systems with improved varieties of vegetables and pulses can significantly enhance farmers’ income. The book aims to provide in depth knowledge related to the research and development on taro covering genetic diversity, production, pest and disease management, nutritive value and utilization as a vegetable, pharmaceutical uses, and livestock and poultry feed and suggests recommendations for further research and development activities that could be useful in upscaling taro production and utilization for food, nutrition, feed and livelihood security. The information on taro covered in this book will be beneficial to under and post graduate students, teachers, and research scholars.
