Blurb – This book is a biography, Ajit Khan (Hamid Ali Khan). a legend of Indian cinema. He was associated with the Indian Film Industry from 1946 to 1996. He started his career with Shah-e-Misr in 1946. Beqasoor, Nastik, Anandmath and Bada Bhai were some of his hit films in the 1950s where he starred in a lead role. His role as Durjan Singh, the Rajput lord in Moghul-e-Azam, brought him many accolades.
In the late sixties Ajit Khan switched over to negative roles. His portrayal of Teja in Zanjeer, Shakal in Yadon Ki Baraat, Lion in Kalicharan are some of his most memorable roles. His style of dialogue delivery made him a favorite amongst the film fans and used extensively by many stand-up comedians.
This book also commemorates his 100th birth anniversary (2022). It is an interesting book with many nostalgic photographs and anecdotes.
Review: Hamid Ali Khan whom we popularly know as Ajit Khan (his state name) started his career as an extra. When he pursued his dream as an actor by his real name, he couldn’t see himself growing and then by the advise of Nana Bhai Bhat, he named himself Ajit (indomitable). Even after the re-naming, he didn’t see much success.
While Ajit Khan slowly became known and started walking on his path of becoming a legend, our writer, Iqbal Rizvi, was intrigued. After seeing movies like “Charas”, “Barood”, “Jugnu”, and many more, he was hooked.
While his own life took over his curiosity, he found his way back to Ajit khan. He reeled himself in on how the legend started, struggles, and slowly rose to face; Iqbal was now determined to know more and more about him.
The book is filled with old photographs and memories that even Wikipedia wouldn’t give you – this information wasn’t an easy grab for him but he made sure that he conveyed even the tiniest memory of Ajit’s life in his biography of him. The deciphering of memories was on point – each part of Ajit’s life was covered by Iqbal.
From his journey to Bombay, his golden Era, his thrilling acts, comradery on sets, the difference of him as an actor and as Hamid Ali Khan to his comeback in 1990 and what all work he did in his entire life.
