A fact that not many people know is that on September 9, 1850, Bhartendu Harishchandra was born in Benares to poet Gopal Chandra and his wife. Harishchandra is said to have written poetry when he was five years old.

He also spoke Bengali, Marwari, PunjabiGujarati, and other languages. He is regarded as the father of modern Hindi literature and theatre. During his reign, Urdu was the court language and was also recognised by the British.

Hindi was considered underdeveloped and rural, and it was not given much credence. Harishchandra’s work helped to revitalise and accelerate the acceptance of Hindi, particularly the Khariboli dialect, as a modern mainstream literary language in North India.

Tips for writing a Hindi Book/Novel –

  1. Find a story idea
Your idea is the seed of the novel. A new, fresh, and innovative idea is better than anyone else. To get inspiration – read other books, magazines, or newspapers. Once you start observing topics and themes, one or the other idea will stick to you and then you can note it down so, you can have something when you will sit to write.
  2. Genre is a must
Choosing and knowing the genre you want to dive in is the exact type of approach you should take before writing your book. Once you know what genre is the most suitable, start reading and understanding the structure and create a pathway that will help you in writing.
  3. Point of View
You can write in either of the three point of views – first person(I), second person(You, yours), and third person (He, she, they). This will give a clarity to your readers as to who is the narrator and who is the main character. POVs also help in explaining things better; the correct choice of POV is quite important depending on the type of story.
  4. Setting of the novel
The novel should have a certain setting – a place, an environment. Explain it in a way that helps the reader get emotional and mentally involved with the story and surroundings.
  5. Characters involvement
Improvement of the character is indeed important. Each character whether protagonist, antagonist, side-character, each will have their own journey, qualities, conflicts, and ending. This gives more tone to your story and even your fellow characters because one slight change will effect a lot of things which will provide a good amount of dynamics.
  6. Small highlights
Your characters – individually or in group will have conflicts whether they are internal or external conflicts. These conflicts will help the characters grow and mature in the story.
Use literary devices to give more dimension in the story. Create a vibe of your own story which will make it stand out from others.
  7. Complete the first draft.
